Donate to the Cancer Council via Jordan Jives

Cancer Council LogoIt’s been wonderful and humbling to hear from so many of you who, while being unable to make it to Sunday night’s fundraising gig at the Bay Hotel, would still like to be able to donate to the Cancer Council through ‘Jordan Jives’. To make that an easily accomplished feat, we’ve set up a page with My Cause, an organisation which enables groups and individuals to donate directly to their chosen charity and promote events organised in each charities honour. ‘Jordan Jives’ donation page is located at www.mycause.com.au/JordanJives. The page expires in 30 days and, within that time, we hope to raise $10,000 for the Cancer Council of Victoria with the sale of tickets to the Jordan Jives fundraiser on Sunday the 27th of September and the generosity of you all.Jordan Jives Thumbnail If you’d like to see our tally so far, by all means, visit the page itself and make your donations from there or, if you’d prefer one click less, you can simply click the button below and be taken straight to the form to make your donation. A direct link to the donation page is also provided in the sidebar, something we hope to keep running indefinitely.

Whether you can make the gig (and thus have the cost of your ticket directed straight to the Cancer Council) or make a donation of your own, know that you have our gratitude and thanks for supporting a charity that has the mission to:

  • “Lead a cohesive approach to reduce the impact of cancer.
  • Cancer Council Australia works with its members the eight state and territory cancer organisations to:
    • undertake and fund cancer research
    • prevent and control cancer
    • provide information and support for people affected by cancer.”

In her own words:
‘Jordan Jives’ is a Music Event inspired by my mother during her battle with cancer. It’s named in honour of Jan Jordan, known to many as JJ and a great lover of music herself.

‘Jordan Jives’ goal is to create awareness for people suffering from cancer in our community and to raise money for cancer research while enjoying a grand night of music.

Seven local musicians and bands are coming together and donating their efforts for this very special and important cause. These acts will showcase their talents over two stages at the Bay Hotel and are all included on the compilation CD provided with every ticket. Please do check out some of their work on the links provided below.

Jan, you will be sadly missed, though we know your spirit lives on with us in ‘The Music’.

Love Juvita

The Bands

GuessworkGuesswork

Juvita PingiaroJuvita and Joel have been playing together for the past five years, creating their own unique blend of folk and soul music. Their passion cascades from their songs in Juvita’s husky, hardcore vocal stylings and Joel’s intricate and elegant guitar melodies. In the process of perfecting songs for their debut album, ‘I Never Want It To End’, Juvita and Joel brought Cass into the fold to add haunting cello undercurrents to Guesswork’s deeply personal songs which carry a universal appeal in their honesty and willingness to expose the inner workings of their hearts and souls in lyric and melody.Guesswork’s two track promo CD “Dublin Rain” quickly sold out. Now with the addition of Luke Mears on drums and Ben Clacy on bass, Guesswork are back in the studio recording their forthcoming album “This One’s Out Of My Hands”. The sound is deeper, broader and gutsier and the new song lyrics are as passionate as ever, ranging from the heartbreakingly poignant “Sinking Sands” to the deep bite of “Handful”.Guesswork have played at the Frankston Sea Festival and Between The Bays and continue to play throughout the Mornington Peninsula and beyond – from The Portsea Hotel to gigs at The Royal, The Bay and Social in Mornington, Bayside in Frankston, The Peninsula Lounge in Moorooduc, Chelsea Heights Hotel, Hallam Hotel. Manchester Lane and Crown Casino.

Josh RoydhouseJR1 JR sings and plays from the heart whilst being orchestrated by the soul.JR2 His vulnerable mellow voice draws a weary listener in with lyrics of love and loss. Critics say his voice and songs are reminiscent of Cat Stevens, Art Garfunkel and Nick Drake. Finally he has recorded his debut solo album “Wintergreen”. The album is full of sunny melodies, lush harmonies, embellished with banjo, mandolin and melancholy love. Also check out www.myspace.com/jrdallas for instrumental projects and www.myspace.com/presidentroots for the band he plays in

Bridget Pross

Bridget Pross1

Young Tasmanian singer/songwriter Bridget Pross has been making her presence felt on the Australian music scene over the last few months. In the lead-up to, and since the release of her debut full-length album
“I Wanted To”, Bridget has been performing steadily in Melbourne, Sydney and her home state of Tasmania. Bridget has supported a number of high-profile acts: most notably Joe Cocker, America’s Indigo Girls, the UK’s Snow Patrol and home-grown talents including Lior, John Butler Trio, Ian Moss, Josh Pyke, Chris Wilson, Renee Geyer, Tex Perkins, Saraha Blasko, Holly Throsby, Deborah Conway, Bobby Flynn, Richard Clapton, Brian Cadd and Russell Morris. She has also performed at Tasmania’s Marion Bay 2007 Falls Festival on New Year’s Eve, Byron Bay’s Bluesfest as well as the Southern Roots show supporting Keith Urban and John Fogerty. Bridget also recently had the pleasure of supporting American folk guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke on every date of his most recent Australian tour. Every live performance has seen this talented young singer grow in confidence and skill, with her strong, smoky voice, engaging songs and warm, easy charm winning her plenty of fans.Bridget Pross5“Little Sister,” the first single from the “I Wanted To” album, was released in October 2007, scoring “Single of the Week” in Melbourne’s magazine, with Clem Barstow calling her a “captivating new presence.” Sydney’s Drum magazine said “Pross’ warmth and generosity, both spiritually and musically, is evident throughout… A subtle rock sensibility lifts her work from the run of singer/songwriters, nudging it into Dirty Lucy or Sheryl Crow territory…” “Little Sister” also gained good airplay on community, Radio National, Dig and local ABC radio along the eastern seaboard. To date, Bridget has performed live for Sydney, Canberra and Hobart ABC radio, as well as featuring on Melbourne’s 3RRR and PBS FM community stations, while also gaining good airplay on Sydney’s FBi and 2RRR community radio stations.Listeners will find that “I Wanted To” showcases Bridget’s warm, husky voice across genres that range from a folk based sound, to some rougher, raucous more rock based tunes. There are elements of guitar pop and roots music peppered through the album, showing just how many styles of music catch Bridget’s ear and how easily she can make them her own, delivering a warm and engaging debut album
